for the fuel pump it also has a capacitor to have some stored voltage when the bike is first kicked that stored voltage. In 1987 the 4.9L had standard fuel injection and in 1988 the 5.8, and 7.5L followed suit.

I doubt Yamaha would produce a fuel-injection that was working flawlessly and I HIGHLY doubt they would go back to carbs the next year. Yamaha has had fuel injected quads since about 08, they know how to build an efi system. there is no doubt efi is so much better and more tunable too the fuel and timing curves are limitless where with a carb you are stuck with a 2 or 3 circut carb and it is just not as tuneable.i took a efi course years ago and when i saw the advantages i couldn't figure why the bikes did not go to efi sooner.
